Winter Sanctuary

•March 6, 2011 • Leave a Comment

Winter in her soul, she stands quietly enchanted by a small bird resting in her hand. Poised with the grace of a noble heart, she listens and speaks softly to the delightful songbird. She has created a sanctuary of beauty for her muse.

Ocean View

I would love living with an ocean view … perhaps not quite as minimalistic as this island scene of palms along the shore.

Cherry Sky

•February 23, 2011 • 1 Comment

Rarely do I know what I’m going to paint when I get started. Even in the early stages of the painting, I am often surprised at the direction my hand takes like in this painting of a cherry blossom tree against a cherry sky. It’s the most magical element of the creative process for me … the element of surprise:

Rugged Faceoff

•February 20, 2011 • Leave a Comment

Though  sandy beaches are fine, I much prefer a shoreline covered in cold and hard slate … big boulders forced into shape, being slapped by high waves.

Valentine’s Day

•February 9, 2011 • 1 Comment

Though Valentine’s Day is next Monday, I wanted to illustrate and paint an e-Valentine card to celebrate love and offer it to you as a gift. It’s not meant so much for romantic love, this e-Valentine is symbolic of all kinds of love. Feel free to download and use it to send someone you care about. I only ask that you keep my info at the bottom in tact.

Valentine’s Day has always been a special day … not because of what it stands for most people. It was my Mother’s birthday who passed away last June. She genuinely was a beautiful Valentine with a pure and innocent heart. I know she would love this e-Valentine and what I’m doing with it. Joy and blessings, Genece

Love is an affair of the heart … may you always rise up in love.

Floating Sadness

•February 6, 2011 • 1 Comment

Have been painting all morning … sadness floating through the forest; released from the soul and replaced by the grace of quiet beauty. It is not weakness of expression.

Sadness is but a wall between two gardens. –Kahlil Gibran

Rough Edges

Took another break from working on the annual website update. Painted for several hours to rejuvenate.

Drifting Alone

•January 16, 2011 • 1 Comment

I haven’t painted water or boat scenes in awhile … seems I’ve been doing a lot of landscapes (mostly trees) in recent months. Today, I found my way back to water :-)

Violet Fusion

•January 15, 2011 • Leave a Comment

Been working on the annual update to the website which is taking a lot of time and attention to detail. This evening, I had to take a break … painting was exactly what I needed to refresh my Spirit.

Blood Red Birch

•December 28, 2010 • 2 Comments

I love painting birch trees. This one was inspired after cutting my finger and watching the dark red blood drip on the floor. Yes, inspiration does come from many different sources :-)

Let It Snow!

•December 19, 2010 • Leave a Comment

I’m in a snowy mood … white flurries on a cold day! Reminds me of playing and making angels in the snow. It’s raining here in Vegas … just not the same :-)

In Seclusion

•December 18, 2010 • Leave a Comment

Retreating into the silence of the soul, it is easy to ponder a secluded cabin in the mountains. Winter is a time for reflection and allowing the old to fall graciously away.

Winter’s Dream

•December 16, 2010 • Leave a Comment

Though I am in Las Vegas for the holidays, I’m missing the snow happening back home. So, today, I painted it to remind me of how much I love winter. I love the starkness of the season, the soft blanket of beauty keeping everything beneath protected and in hibernation. Tis’ the season for a winter’s dream:

Quiet Backdrop

•November 26, 2010 • Leave a Comment

Morning is quiet, except for the gentle clicking sounds of the mouse. The painter is easily accessed as inspiration brushes its way across an empty canvas, a backdrop for beauty.

Jia Wood is one of 10 BaZi Day Masters, based on an ancient Chinese astrology. Based on my date of birth, I am Jia Wood (Yang) … strong like a tree with branches reaching upward toward the sky.

Winter’s Coming

•November 12, 2010 • 2 Comments

I love winter … the chill in the air, the white blanket of fresh snow…inside, a roaring fire and dry red wine. Winter’s coming and I’m ready to blanket my soul in quiet.

It’s been awhile since I’ve sat down to paint art. I’ve been engaged in other activities that have kept me busy. This is a painting I actually started some time ago and didn’t finish. Feels good to finish it!

Fall Foliage

•October 21, 2010 • Leave a Comment

Been painting all morning instead of doing things that need to be done. When I’m inspired to paint, I must paint. Today, it’s all about splashing and spraying fall foliage onto dark tree trunks. The ground catches some of the color as the leaves begin to fall.

Evening Vista

•October 19, 2010 • 1 Comment

It’s chilly today … a beautiful day to paint and dream. A day to allow my mind and heart the pleasure of gazing into the stillness while painting a tropical sunset and the sea.
